There's a city in the United States that Americans visit, excluding Vegas. It's just a 1.5-hour drive away, has mild weather year-round - although it can get pretty hot in the summer. It's got plenty of golf courses, so you can relax and enjoy golf at a reasonable price. Plus, it's home to many casinos with large entertainment venues, so concerts are frequently held there. It's a city where many retirees choose to live, and that city is Palm Springs

Palm Springs, located along the San Jacinto mountain range (two-thirds the height of Mount Blanc: 10,834 feet above sea level), features a rotating tram that carves through the canyons and covers approximately 2.5 miles. There's also an Air Museum where you can explore various fighter planes from World War II.
However, Palm Springs is most famous for its association with modernism.
Every February and October, it hosts Modernism Week, an event that showcases its modernist architectural heritage. In October, you can take part in modernist architecture tours, offering a chance to gain inspiration from architects and designers.
Palm Springs underwent significant development between 1955 and 1965, resulting in the construction of homes and buildings in the mid-20th-century architectural style. This era followed World War II when prosperity and optimism abounded as people returned from the war, and that sentiment is beautifully preserved in the architecture.
In 20th-century modernist architecture, concrete, steel, and glass were the primary materials used, mainly because they were affordable after the war. The widespread use of glass, in particular, helped create visual landscapes that seamlessly merged the beautiful, sunny Southern California weather with the indoors.

Albert Frey, a pioneer of Desert Modernism, designed a house called Hidden Frey in 1966. While it was forgotten for the past 30 years, it has recently been restored and is regaining its past glory. This house is known for its seclusion and hidden nature, with all spaces located underground except for the swimming pool, living up to its name.
The popularity of air conditioning, which became widespread in the 1950s, played a significant role in the boom of Palm Springs. Due to its proximity to Hollywood, it became a favored vacation spot for Hollywood stars. While Eastern Modernist architecture was influenced by the natural environment and mainly used wood, Western Palm Springs Modernism was influenced by Hollywood, featuring bright and sunny designs with a significant use of metal in its unique furniture and structures. |

Mid-20th-century modern design is experiencing a resurgence in popular culture, thanks in part to TV shows like "Mad Men." It has become a vintage trend and is now a rich source of content and lifestyle on social media platforms like Instagram. If you have the opportunity, participating in Modernism Week held in October can provide you with even more valuable content. Next time you visit Palm Springs, be sure to immerse yourself in the ambiance of modernism! |

Consumer Trend - Fun Bench for Adults to Prevent Muscle Loss 🧘🤸♀️
At playgrounds, you can easily spot active children running around and parents sitting on park benches, engrossed in their smartphones. Most people, once they pass the age of 30, unexpectedly experience muscle loss that they didn't anticipate. In response to this, the health insurance company Helan has started redesigning benches to help prevent muscle loss in adults and lead them towards a more active lifestyle.
The bench designs proposed by the design studio RAAK are quite intriguing and innovative. Some benches require you to engage your core muscles due to coil legs, while others have minimal leg support, requiring you to squat automatically when sitting down and standing up. Some benches even elevate their legs like a ladder, making you climb to sit on them.
Parks often provide outdoor fitness equipment that nearly everyone can use, but it takes personal dedication to make use of them. Helan, in collaboration with their partner Famous Grey, emphasizes with this project that all activities can seamlessly lead to muscle-strengthening exercises without specific workout times or constraints.
In our daily lives, it's worth considering how we can introduce enjoyable interventions. Brands should contemplate how they can foster positive perceptions, encourage people to move, and contribute to promoting behaviors that are important but might be challenging to perform in busy or tiring situations.

Vintage Design - Reassemblable Leather (Using Belts or Laces...)
The commonality among the LC1 chair designed by Le Corbusier in 1928, the Huntsman Chair designed by Børge Mogensen in 1950, and the SZ02 chair designed by Martin Visser in the 1960s lies in their leather treatment methods. Leather tends to stretch over time, and to prolong the lifespan of these three chairs, incorporating a re-tightening mechanism was a common design feature.
In the case of the LC1 chair, it had straps on the base, while the Huntsman Chair featured belts on the seat and the backrest. The SZ02 chair had belts on the backrest and straps underneath.

|
Interestingly, in the modern version of the LC1 chair produced by Design Within Reach, they have replaced the straps with metal spring treatment, resulting in an overall cooler feel. |

|
As envisioned in the BMW i Vision Circular, I'm curious if this leather treatment approach could bring a unique flair to the door panels and seat finishes. |

Automotive Weekly - The Refreshed 2024 F-150 Declares Tailgate War
The refreshed model of the Ford F-150, America's best-selling truck with over 700K units sold in 2022, was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. While the design changes are quite subtle, the Tremor trim exhibits off-road-oriented features.
The C-clamp-style headlights have been updated to LEDs across all trims, but the most significant change is the DRL (Daytime Running Lights) and bronze highlights that make the already wide grille appear even broader. The front end boasts modular bumper accessories that convey robust towing capabilities, designed for practicality in case you need to tow a stalled vehicle during off-road adventures.

The tailgate, an aspect of trucks that is carefully considered, has received several new features. The new "Pro Access Tailgate" allows for conventional button opening in the typical clamshell manner. However, by pressing the central arrow portion, it can be opened like a regular door, and it can be adjusted to angles of 37 degrees, 70 degrees, and 100 degrees.
This swing-door style opening is convenient for even shorter drivers, as it eliminates the need to reach up to the bed's top. Furthermore, the ability to open the tailgate at various angles of 37 degrees, 70 degrees, and 100 degrees is designed to make it easy to retrieve items from the truck bed without causing damage to a trailer when towing. It's a very clever and practical design |

The interior adorned with the Platinum Plus trim gives off a feeling reminiscent of Lincoln's interiors rather than a typical truck. Upgraded leather, a 12-way adjustable massage feature, diamond quilt patterns, and a maximum reclining capability of 180 degrees all contribute to elevating the interior to a higher level of luxury. |

Although it wasn't explicitly mentioned, there has been an update to the F-150's emblem. The lettering and the surrounding oval are no longer chrome but have been changed to white. Additionally, the previously raised dome shape has been replaced with a flat design. While it's speculative, it appears that this change might extend to other models as well. Personally, it looks refreshing and appealing to me. Ford has faced criticism from consumers regarding emblem fading issues, and it seems that changing the emblem design without addressing durability concerns may not hold much significance. |
